SYNOPSIS

Film “Quo Vadis, Aida?” is the story about the cruelty of the war and dangers of nationalism. It returns as back to July 1995, to Bosnia. Aida is a translator for the United Nations, in the small town of Srebrenica. When the Bosnian Serb army takes over the town, her family is among the thousands of citizens looking for shelter in the UN base. As an insider to the negotiations Aida has access to crucial information that she needs to interpret. What is the horizon for her family and people – rescue or death? Which move should she take?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jasmila Žbanić is born in 1974,  in Sarajevo. She is a graduate of the Academy of Dramatic Arts, Theatre and Film Directing Department. Her feature debut GRBAVICA won the 2006 Berlinale Golden Bear, as well as the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and the Peace Prize. Also, that film got the Fest Grand Jury Prize at the festival in Los Angeles organised by the American Film Institute (AFI), and numerous other, being also screened in 40 countries with great success. Her second feature film “On the path” also premiered at the 2010 Berlinale, in the Competition section, and it had significant festival life and screenings in large number of countries. Furthermore, her other feature films, such as “For those who can tell no tales”, “Love Island” and “One day in Sarajevo” were premiered at the prominent festivals and broadcasted on international TV stations with millions of viewers. All her films were produced through Deblokada, a production company that she founded. She is the recipient of the 2014 KAIROS Prize which honors European artists whose work is judged to have a major cultural and social impact.
