SYNOPSIS
29 January 2024. Red Crescent volunteers receive a call for help: a six-year-old girl is trapped inside a car under fire in Gaza. Keeping her on the line, they try everything to guide an ambulance to her. Using authentic audio recordings, the film builds a claustrophobic and emotionally intense reconstruction of the real events.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Kaouther Ben Hania, born on 27 August 1977 in Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia, grew up far from the film world, but eventually discovered directing as her true vocation. She studied film directing at EDAC in Tunis, followed by further studies in Paris at the prestigious La Fémis and at Sorbonne Nouvelle University. She began her career with short films and documentaries before moving into feature-length fiction, including Challat of Tunis (2013) and Beauty and the Dogs (2017). Her international breakthrough came with The Man Who Sold His Skin (2020), which brought Tunisia its first-ever Oscar nomination. Her next film, Four Daughters (2023), earned her a second Oscar nomination, making her the first Arab female director to be nominated in two different categories. In 2025, she released The Voice of Hind Rajab (2025), a hybrid docudrama that won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival and further cemented her status as one of the leading voices of contemporary Arab and world cinema.
