SYNOPSIS

Structured around four main stories, the film combines visually stunning segments with testimonies from female partisans. Nanica (18), who died during the war, left behind a diary. Marija (87) recorded an audio interview a few years ago, preserving her voice. The other two protagonists, Hilda (105) and Zdenka (96), passionately share their wartime and postwar experiences. The film seeks to uncover hidden feminine principles, forms, and meanings in stories we know, think we know, and are yet to discover – erecting a monument to them.

ABOUT THE AUTOR

Renata Poljak is a Croatian artist born in 1974, living and working in Zagreb. In her work she uses a variety of media including photography, installation, film and video, Renata Poljak uses images with strong metaphorical potential that refer to political, economic and social phenomena from the early 1990s to the present day. Her videos and installations often combine a documentary approach with fictional stagings to address the issues and representations of historical and contemporary migratory processes. Through a variety of media (film, video, collage, neon, installation and drawing), Renata Poljak’s work combines autobiographical, documentary and staged sequences to explore the social consequences of the Balkan conflicts of the 1990s.
