SYNOPSIS
Maryam a 22-year-old Iranian woman accidentally kills her 65-year-old husband Nasser and she is sentenced to death. The only way to be released is if she gets forgiveness from the daughter of the killed with whom she has to appear in TV reality, as well as the number of votes for forgiveness cast by the audience. The show is filmed on Yalda, the night predestinated for forgiveness which is also the longest night of celebration welcoming the arrival of the winter season, very important and respected in Persian culture. The film is done based on true stories in which the TV studio is the courtroom and place where justice is served. In this drama, Maryam is the one who has to seek forgiveness and for her life.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Massoud Bakhshi is born in 1972, in Teheran. He has worked as a film critic, scriptwriter and producer, before making 12 documentaries and short films which were awarded internationally. His first feature film A Respectable Family was selected at Cannes Film Festival 2012. His films are known also as socially engaged, with strong criticism of corruption which is devastating Iranian society.
